A SimCity 2000-like RTS game
Holiday Island is an old game from Sunflowers (well known from the famous RTS games Anno 1602, 1503 and 1701), whereby you have to build a big city. In contrast with SimCity this game has some opponent cities and so the challenge is much bigger.
Your task is to earn alot of money by attracking the tourists. You can do that by building attractions, hotels, campings, airports, etc... and by making some publicity. The more money you have the more possibilities you have to expand your city.
Also the opponent cities are trying to become the biggest city. But don't worry, if you got enough money, you can sabotage their buildings!
It's a wonderful game with nice graphics and animations, good music and easy-to-use menu's. But the game contains a bug! Sometimes it's generate an error because it cannot find a picture. The pictures are all present, but the game calls it with a wrong name (containing an extra space in the filename). Luckily that error let never crash the game. Just a click on the OK button and you can continue playing.
How to play?
The game doesn't contain a readme of help file, so I will explain a bit how to start the game.
By the start you borrowed 4 million dollar. First, look for a good place on the map. I prefer a place nearby the coast. Build a road, build alot of camping sites, a servage and a power plant, an airport and eg. 2 beach chairs on the beach. Of course you may do it in another way, but that was the way I used.
Try to pay off your loan as soon as possible (the interest is high).
When you make a small profit, you can start putting other buildings (hotels, shops, parks, attractions, etc..) on the map.
note:
On some systems, the game will show the next error message:"the specified file cannot be played on the specified MCI device". This means that your system refuses to play the movies of that game. If you got that problem, I cannot help... sorry :(
Controls:
Everything is controlled by the mouse.
Unless I got many troubles with my system to play this game, I love it very much and will recommend it to all our RTS fans!
