A short Sonic platform game.
Your little friend Tails is in trouble and guess who needs to save him: Sonic of course! The game includes several zones, each with two acts and some only have one act. To top it off, the author has included bonus-stages (those are hateful, though) and many level secrets. The levels are relatively short, but they are made according to the original games from the good old days, just visually speaking of course. The soundtrack brings the Sonic-fan a smile over his/her face and the sound effects sound 100% Sonic.
What doesn't feel 100% Sonic, are the controls. Running goes well, but it is the jumping and rolling that makes me cringe. You can't control your jump and even a snail crawls faster than Sonic could roll. When you jump, you are supposed to be able to jump at the height you want to jump at and here you always jump at the maximum height. I remember very well that Sonic used to go at a blinding speed when performing his deadly rolling move. In this game, however, you roll slow and it is quite tricky to kill the enemy crabs or fish because the rolling distance is very short. Luckily there are very few enemies to worry about, so this won't be much of a bother. Another annoying thing are the springs, the red ones work perfectly but the yellow ones are a reason to start smoking again. Once you jump on them, you are supposed to go quite high. Here it isn't the case, even when you jump normally you go way higher but, just as the enemies, there are few springs and they are only in the first zone. The most irritating thing in the game is that Sonic, while playing, is placed quite up front so that it is difficult to give a reaction on the dangers that may lie ahead. Furthermore there are a couple of bugs but they are not really worth complaining about. Overall; the game has a lot of negative elements but for those that like the Sonic-soundtrack and graphics, it is not a bad game to play when you're bored.
