In Knytt Stories, each level is its own little adventure. One level is included with the game, where you have to stop a machine that draws the life out of the planet. An official expansion pack is also featured at the website with four original levels.
Editor:
The game also comes with a powerful level editor, that does however not come with a documentation. You'll find one here
A lot of things in the editor are combinations of shift+right/left mouse button. For example, you do not need to click the tileset selector 128 times to get to tileset 128, just shift+click to jump in steps of 10, or use shift+scrollwheel. This applies to most things in the editor.
